What is Kriya Yoga?
Kriya means action. Kriya Yoga means the Yoga of Action. Kriya Yoga is an ancient type of meditation technique that uses pranayama (breathwork), mantra (chanting), and mudras (spiritual hand gestures) to rapidly accelerate growth. The ultimate goal of a kriya practice is to achieve spiritual awakening or enlightenment (aka Samadhi). In 1861, the performance of Kriya Yoga was reinstituted by Mahavatar Babaji and passed through his disciple, Lahiri Mahasaya. Through Lahiri Mahasaya, the practice spread all over India. If you do external activity we call it karma but when you do internal activity we call it Kriya. Kriya means internal action. Karmas are those which bind you, kriyas are those which release you. Kriya yoga is a very powerful way to walk the spiritual path, but at the same time, it is a very demanding way. Kriya yoga is important only if you want to do things beyond realization. With the path of Kriya, you are not only seeking realization, but you also want to know the mechanics of life-making.
“The Kriya technique will bring you to the source of inspiration and will give you answers, clear the brain and stimulate it, strengthen the medulla, and open the spiritual eye, as well as greatly magnetize the body – Paramhansa Yogananda”
