How to become a yoga instructor?
As with all things in life, it is always better to be clear on your intention before you begin. It’s a great time to reflect on your yoga journey and get a better understanding of why you want to deepen your practice. What are your reasons for teaching?
What kind of yoga teacher are you interested in becoming? If you want to become a yoga instructor for a lifelong vinyasa business, then restoration yoga training does not count. Instead, choose the training that gives you the style of choice and wants to teach you.
How much can you spend? As a full-time yoga teacher being a student is a good investment. It will help you find others, and align your experience in an affordable way to take you to the next level of your practice.
What kind of time commitment are you looking for? Perhaps you have a flexible schedule and can be committed to full-time immersion training for one month or more, where you meet and receive training every day. On the other hand, if you work full-time, it may be more realistic for you to focus on the weekends. It’s also important to note that outside of contact training, a good amount of homework will be required.
What do you want to learn in class? You can ask one or two questions about it or ask the whole training course. Once you’re interested, start looking for a school. Find out what makes them different or unique. Classes should focus on your target market and industry, not just any other class that is available.
Make sure the training program takes place at a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga School (RYS) if you’re looking to become a yoga instructor.
If you’re thinking about taking a teacher training course, reach out to other teachers who have completed training at the schools you’re attending. If you can’t find someone on your own, don’t hesitate to ask the trainers for some references. Find out what other yoga teachers experienced in that school.
