The Rig Veda mentions the elements of yoga. The term Veda means knowledge. There are four main Vedas- Rig Veda, Sama Veda, Yajur Veda and Atharva Veda. The context of ‘The Rig Veda’ is ‘Praise Knowledge’. The most important and oldest Veda is the Rig Veda. It has 1028 hymns called ‘Suktas’ and a collection of 10 books called ‘Mandalas’. These comprise Indra, Agni, Vishnu, Rudra, Varuna, and the other Vedic Gods. It also includes the famous Gayatri mantra and the prayer called Purusha Sukta (the story of Primal Man).
