Is Yoga a pseudoscience?
When yoga is marketed with unfounded pseudo scientific claims of specific benefits, it may not be any more effective than other forms of exercise in those situations. Other claims about yoga’s effects on specific organs, like the idea that forward bends flush toxins from the liver, are also completely unfounded.
Yoga is not a pseudoscience. For a beginner, yoga is an exercise; for an expert, it is a discipline; and for a committed practitioner, it is a way of life.
Is yoga a science as well?
Yoga is considered to be a scientific discipline if science is defined as “the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation and experimentation.” This is because yoga has been practiced for many years and knowledge has been passed down from one teacher to the next.
Yoga is still in its infancy as a science, however, if you adopt a narrow definition of what “science” is—one that is based on statistical evidence from controlled tests, etc. However, numerous studies have studied the advantages for health.
