Yoga Sirsasana – How to do Sirsasana Yoga Pose

The Yoga Sirsasana, also known as the Headstand Pose, is the most difficult of all the asanas because it requires balancing on the head or crown. It is an advanced yoga pose that should only be performed with the supervision of a yoga teacher. This stance is particularly well-liked due to its various health benefits. It accelerates blood circulation and assures the brain receives enough well-oxygenated blood.

    How to do Sirsasana Yoga

    1. Get down on your hands and knees with your knees placed beneath your hips and your wrists under your shoulders.
    2. Keep your elbows positioned just beneath your shoulders as you lower your forearms to the ground.
    3. Join hands by surrounding the opposing elbow. Make any necessary adjustments to maintain shoulder-width separation of your elbows.
    4. Your hands should be liberated from your elbows.
    5. Put your hands on the floor and spliced your fingers (To prevent it from being squashed, tuck your bottom pinky into the basket of your hand).
    6. Your head should be on the ground. Your head should be down at the very top, neither leaning forward nor backward. Instead of your hands holding your skull, the rear of your head will rest at the tips of your thumbs.
    7. As if you were in the Downward-Facing Dog position, elevate your hips and straighten your legs.
    8. When your hips are as close to your shoulders as possible, slowly walk your feet in that direction.
    9. The pose’s most challenging step is to lift your feet off the ground.

    Yoga Sirsasana Benefits

    • Stress relief.
    • Increases concentration.
    • Enables more blood to circulate to the eyes.
    • Increases the flow of blood to the scalp and head.
    • Arms and shoulders are strengthened.
    • Enhances Digestion.
    • Helps in the flushing out of the adrenal glands.
    • Reduces fluid accumulation in the feet, ankles, and legs.

    What is Sivananda Yoga?

Swami Vishnudevananda originated the Sivananda Yoga system, a type of spiritual yoga that uses asanas (yoga postures) but is not focused specifically on them, unlike other methods that use yoga as exercise. In dignity of his guru, Sivananda, he gave both the system’s name and the institution that is in charge of attempting to spread its teachings—the international Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centers—a mission statement reading: “Practice and teach the ancient yogic knowledge for health, peace, unity in diversity, and self-realization.”

    Philosophy of Sivananda Yoga

The five guiding principles for spiritual development and ideal health that Vishnudevananda described create the foundation of the Sivananda method.

    • Perfect exercise (Asana, focusing on twelve poses in particular).
    • Correct inhalation (Pranayama).
    • Adequate relaxation (Savasana).
    • Correct diet (Vegetarian).
    • Vedanta, or positive thought, and meditation (Dhyana).

    12 Basic Postures Sivananda Yoga

Pranayama exercises start kicking off a class. After heating up with sun salutations, the focus moved to perfect the 12 basic postures of Sivananda yoga in the order listed below:

    • Headstand Pose or Sirsasana
    • Shoulder Stand Pose or Salamba Sarvangasana
    • Plow Pose or Halasana
    • Fish Pose or Matsyasana
    • Seated Forward Bend Pose or Paschimottanasana
    • Cobra Pose or Bhujangasana
    • Locust Pose or Salabhasana
    • Bow Pose or Dhanurasana
    • Seated Spinal Twist Pose or Ardha Matsyendrasana
    • Crow Pose or Bakasana / Peacock Pose or Mayurasana
    • Standing Forward Bend Pose or Uttanasana
    • Triangle Pose or Trikonasana

    Benefits of Sivananda Yoga

The flexibility of the muscles, joints, ligaments, and tendons is strengthened with Sivananda yoga. Additionally, it promotes circulation. It improves the spine’s flexibility and strength, which keeps the body younger. It strengthens and stretches the muscular system’s muscles.

    What are Astha Siddhi?

The 8 Ashta Siddhis are Anima, Mahima, Garima, Laghima, Prapti, Prakamya, Isitva, and Vasitva, as represented by the word Ashta, which means eight in Sanskrit. Each siddhi regulates a particular personality aspect or natural phenomenon, and acquiring them all results in a special talent that sets them separate from other siddhis.

During reading Hanuman Chalisa, you must have read this line “अष्ट सिद्धि नव निधि के दाता” Possibly you’ve thought what this sentence means.

Ashta Siddhis (अष्ट सिद्धियां) defines as eight types of power. The power acquired by establishing oneself as the perfect one or Atman (आत्मन) is known as siddhi.

How can I get Astha Siddhi?

According to Acharya Charaka, the relationship of the yogi’s shuddha satva (pure mind, free of raja and tama, which pollute the mind) and soul enables him to achieve eight siddhis while engaging in yoga. Only those who do yoga and connect their pure mind with soul can get all eight siddhis.

Who is the one whom has Astha Siddhi?

Both Ganesha Ji and Hanuman Ji have ability to Ashta Siddhis and can provide it to others. The Ashta Siddhis (8 Divine Powers) are as follows: Anima: The ability to shrink to any desired size. Mahima: Exact reciprocal of Anihma.
